Props Lunch Delivers Big Hits with Dan Cole and Joe Marler at Quaglinos

The Sporting Club’s Props Lunch at Quaglinos was everything members have come to expect — and more. A packed room of members and guests gathered to hear from England greats Dan Cole and Joe Marler, and the duo did not disappoint.

Recently retired and boasting an extraordinary 213 England caps between them (118 for Cole, 95 for Marler), the former Leicester Tigers and Harlequins stalwarts were in magnificent form. Across three separate 20-minute interviews — first individually, then together — guests were treated to a masterclass in humour and honesty. Cole’s understated, deadpan delivery played perfectly against Marler’s unpredictable energy, with the pair bouncing off each other to brilliant effect.

From insights into life in the engine room of international rugby to dressing room stories and reflections on their careers, the conversation was entertaining, revealing and frequently hilarious. Naturally, there was also plenty of talk about Joe’s rise to national treasure status following The Traitors. Above all, what shone through was the genuine respect and affection the two share.

The afternoon also had a powerful purpose. Funds were raised for the Sedulo Foundation, which supports children and families affected by poverty across the UK. Early estimates suggest around £18,000 was raised — a sum that will make a real difference. Guests heard moving insight into the Foundation’s work, reminding everyone of the impact the Sporting Club community can make together.

Attendees enjoyed a welcome drinks reception and photo opportunity with Dan and Joe, followed by a superb three-course lunch with wine, outstanding entertainment, and, for many, afters that stretched long into the evening.

Huge thanks to our Platinum sponsors Target Lifts Ltd, ClimateFM, Universal Partners and FREGA, and Gold sponsor Pygott & Crone Estate Agents, as well as the Sporting Club team who made the day possible.

Next up at Quaglinos: Michael Vaughan on February 12th, reflecting on the recent Ashes series and his leadership of England’s legendary 2005 Ashes victory.
