Chateau St Pierre was established in the 17th century and ranks in the
famous Napoleon classification of 1855. Spread across 17 hectares the
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc 50-year old vines benefit
from the classic gravel and sandy soils of the Medoc Peninsular. Harvest
is manual, fermentation is traditional in stainless steel, temperature-
controlled tanks after which the wine is aged between 18 to 24 months in
French oak casks, 50% new.
CRITIC’S OPINION: Robert Parker Jnr, The Wine Advocate 94 /100
“Smart consumers should be checking out this estate whose wines
have been superb over recent vintages. It is a classic Saint Julien with
sensational concentration and intensity…”. –Tasting 30th April 2008
“Possibly one of two of the most concentrated Saint Julien’s (Léoville Las
Cases is the other), this 2005 shows wonderfully sweet tannin, a dense
ruby/purple colour, and lots of crème de cassis, liquorice and spice.
Full-bodied, opulent, and impressive, it is surprisingly soft, though it
will certainly age nicely for 15-20+ years.” – Tasting 29th June 2015
