Dinner with Tony Jacklin
Tuesday, July 16th, 2019: The Colony Altrincham Road, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 4LY 6pm-9pm
It was 50 years ago this summer that Tony Jacklin won the Open at Royal Lytham St Anne's, beating some of the greatest names in the history of golf in the process.
A few weeks' later he was involved in the "Concession," one of the most famous events in the sport. Playing against the great Jack Nicklaus the English golfer faced a three foot putt to halve his match and draw the Ryder Cup at Royal Birkdale. The putt never happened. Nicklaus picked the ball up, conceded the putt and the Cup, retained by holders America, was drawn. The "Concession" went down as one of the greatest acts of sportsmanship ever witnessed. Jacklin went on to win the US Open in 1970 before transforming the European Ryder Cup team in the 1980s, winning two and drawing one out of the four he captained Europe in. From that point onwards to this day after being dominated by the USA, Europe would become the dominant force. Come and listen to a true legend of British golf just two days before the 2019 Open as he recalls those amazing tales of winning and sportsmanship. Enjoy drinks, photos with Tony and a two course dinner as well.
